The Writers’ Lighthouse at Shippensburg University

seeks submissions for

the fifth edition of

First Light:

The Journal of Exceptional

 High School Writing

The Competition outline:

"While we’re excited to see any creative work, stories set in fantastic or otherworldly realms must also comment on the human condition in the vein of traditional literature.  We are especially interested in timely writing that reflects the realities of your lived experience.  Scholarly writing such as academic essays are outside the scope of what we publish.

Most importantly, raise your voice, exercise your imagination, and capture something wondrous on the page. "

Below you can read my students' published pieces in the magazine.

  • Angelina Wang - Replicando Foraminis/Expuisitis Rationibus (science fiction)
  • Melody Zhao - Locked in a Bootstrap Paradox Jar (poetry)
  • Sophie Zhao - The Life of an American Teen (screenplay fiction)
